Distance Learning Beginners Dutch Course - 25 Lessons
This course will teach you how to:
- Understand spoken Dutch phrases that are spoken slowly and distinctly.
- Write simple messages in Dutch appropriate to everyday situation.
- Read and understand the essence of simple Dutch phrases that relate to everyday events.
- Make yourself understood in Dutch using simple words in the most common everyday situations.
This course includes:
- A range or topic areas including: introducing yourself and meeting people, family and friends, living and work, eating and drinking, clothes, shopping, the weather, asking directions, public transport, services like the post office, travel, hobbies, spare time, the media, going out, theatre, and film.
- Dutch grammar: numbers, countries and nationalities, the present tense of verbs, articles, plurals, prepositions, weights and measures, asking questions, pronouns, colours, modal verbs, word order, time, negation, comparatives, superlatives, diminutives, the simple past tense, the present perfect tense, adjectives, irregular verbs, and the future tense.
- Exercises in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
- Dutch Pronunciation.
This course consists of:
- 25 lessons covering a range of everyday topics including shopping, travel, work, holidays, etc.
- Online tests and pronunciation exercises to accompany each lesson. NEW
- The basic Dutch grammar.
- Vocabulary list.
- Exercises in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
- Audio CD with pronunciation and listening exercises.
- Templates for all the homework exercises available online. Just fill them in and send them off!
- Homework correction by email.
- Email support from a qualified Dutch teacher for 12 months, with the option to purchase extended support if needed.
- A half hour telephone session with your teacher at the end of each part of the course.
- Course progress status available online.
- Online timed tests at the end of each part of the course for students to verify their learning.
Course structure:
This distance learning home study course is designed to be completed at your own pace. Each lesson takes between one and two hours of study to complete. You may send in your homework assignments when you are ready. The course is delivered in three parts and you may start at any time of the year. Part 2 and part 3 will be delivered on completion of the preceding part.
This course is suitable for adults and children from the age of about 13.
What you will need before starting this course:
- Access to a computer (so that you can complete your homework assignments).
- A connection to the Internet (so that you can access your homework templates and view your current course status).
- An email account (so that you can return your homework assignments and communicate with your teacher).
- Microsoft Word, Open Office Writer, or other word processing software that can display the "track changes" information created by Microsoft Word (for viewing your corrected homework assignments).
- A CD player for the listening exercises.
On completion of this course you will:
- Have a good understanding of all the basics of the Dutch grammar.
- Be acquainted with a range of useful everyday topics in Dutch.
- Be able to communicate with Dutch people both verbally and in writing.
